Senior PHP Backend Developer – Pedestrian TV


Job brief

We are looking for a Senior Backend Developer who is dedicated and passionate to problem solving and writing code in a scalable manner. An open-minded developer who is curious and is looking to take on new challenges and can tailor existing work to the solution for each client’s unique business requirements.

What does a Senior Backend Developer do?

A Senior Backend Developer will be responsible for the service side code and APIs of our web applications – writing beautiful PHP code that is fast and responsive ensuring that it meets requirements set out in the project/task brief in a timely and scalable way that improves the codebase of our products. Always ensuring that when writing the solution can be used in multiple projects in a modular way.

You will be a part of a team mixed with fully fledged backend developers and full stack developers that is responsible for all aspects of the ongoing software development from the initial specification, through to developing, testing and launching.

You will be required to work on projects using base foundations established to both support work previously done and expand on the codebase through continuous improvement, ultimately be the driving force behind most projects to power the frontend and all backend activities.


  • Write clean well-designed code in a timely and scalable way
  • Produce detailed specifications or scope of works within tickets or documents to aid in the development of work not just for yourself but for others also
  • Troubleshoot, test and maintain the core product software and databases to ensure strong optimization and functionality
  • Contribute in all phases of the development lifecycle
  • Maintenance of our internal servers for both Web Apps (like Magento) to smaller Business Apps (Shopify)
  • Follow industry best practices
  • Develop and deploy new features or work on improving existing project codesets
  • Ensuring that solutions are both technically and commercially viable


  • Proven software development experience in PHP
  • English language proficiency Strong communication skills both verbally and in text, you will have to be explaining solutions to both clients and the inner team
  • Understanding of eCommerce platforms like Magento, Shopify
  • Demonstrable basic knowledge of web technologies including HTML, CSS, Javascript, AJAX
  • Good knowledge of relational databases, version control tools and of developing web services
  • Experience in common third-party APIs, Predominately REST and SOAP API Services
  • Worked with multiple data formats, JSON, XML and ability to parse and transform data
  • Passion for best design and coding practices and a desire to develop new bold ideas
  • Worked with a team of developers, and understand software management tools and the software development cycle
  • Knowledge of common cloud platforms like AWS and different server environments is preferably, specifically NGINX
  • Knowledge of Laravel or Lumen is preferred
